Our passion for cricket stretches way back to the end of the First World War when, in honour of their employees who went off to war, the board members of Greene King decided to purchase some playing fields in Bury St Edmunds for employees to enjoy the sport of cricket. Greene King fielded its own XI at the newly named ‘Victory Grounds’, which is still used by the town to this day. Back then it was common practice that even during the brewery’s busiest periods, selection for the team meant automatic leave from the brewery for the afternoon. We might not have won many trophies but our passion for cricket remains as strong today as it was then.
We are particularly proud to be an official partner of England Cricket, sharing with them and our customers the thrills of this marvellous sport. With fabulous access to some cricketing legends of today and in the past through this partnership, Greene King is able to give fans some behind the scenes insights from all the biggest cricket tournaments such as The Ashes and Test matches.
Commenting on the partnership, ECB Commercial Director Rob Calder said: “Greene King IPA is an iconic beer brand with a rich heritage. We look forward to work closely with their marketing team to ensure that our partnership continues to go from strength to strength.”
Dom South, Marketing Director of Greene King Brewing and Brands, said: “With our respective long and established heritage and shared commitment to being the best in class, Greene King is a natural partner for England cricket.
“We are delighted to partner with the ECB and we will be with the England cricket team every step of the way over the next few years.”
